Unbrand America

written 22 Jun 2005 over a light lunch

Whether you believe that George W. Bush makes a good emperor or not, or if you’re a bit more like me and think that fighting to “change the world” is a bit over the top and less affective than working to change yourself, Adbusters has a pretty cool new TV spot.

  • Great ad.

But to get back to what you said, for me it’s not enough to work on improving myself and minimising my impact and being a good person. You see, I may as well not be around at all if my existance doesnt in some way make a contribution and a positive impact. I want my existance to improve the lives of others, even if its just one family I can help out of poverty or make one person feel greatly and unconditionally loved – then there’s a point to my life, even if its small.

  • Yeah, but in both of those situations you aren’t forcing your opinions down someone’s throat.

The world is sick of America telling them what to do, shoving it’s opinions down on them. Americans are sick of feeling like there is little they can do about this place that is supposed to be run based on what they feel like. Republicans are seen as abusing their power and democrats are seen as babies who kick and scream when they don’t get their way.

Everyone’s tired of the other person telling them what to do, but in response, they come out and do the same thing.

So my thing was not about whether or not you want to give food to the less fortunate or tell someone you love them. In fact, those are the exact things that I am talking about. You aren’t saying “Hey, starving children, take my money and then believe in my beliefs.” You aren’t asking them to believe in anything or telling them to change anything about their life, but instead, you’re changing the world through simple actions that are direct outcomes of the way you govern your own life.

    TO THE MAX!
