Bam! (we’ve never been) to the moon, Alice!

written 23 Jun 2005 over dinner

The full moon in June (the first if there happen to be two) is called the Honey Moon, stretching back to pagan traditions that under a full June moon is the best time to harvest honey from the hives.

Coincidentally, June was considered the best time of year for new couples to marry, as May was the time of the “grand (sexual) union” between the Goddess and God, and the mortals didn’t want to compete with the gods by getting it on in May, but they wanted to follow closely behind them.

The two traditions combined lead to newlywed couples being offered gifts of honey during the early days of their marriage. During their Honeymoon.

But another example of how our ancient pagan beliefs still live on today. The best part of marriage is the honeymoon, when you’re fresh and young and new and exciting. It’s not until you start getting into all of that silly “devotion to your wife” and “bearing children for the Lord” Christianity bullshit that you start having difficulties.

I read about this stuff here.

I found that webpage here.

  • ah, yes, the june moon.

once the wolfman tried to describe where the ancient pagan beliefs came from in the first place. it was hard to follow, even for a man like myself, but i’ll give you the jist of it.

back in the days when glacial mountains still ran around carving lakes wherever they fell down and skinned their knees, such things as firefox fairies still could be seen ‘fading into existence’ now and then, as it were. these fairies were apparently the last physical remnants of the creator’s body. according to ancient pagan legends, they believed that these fairies would sneak under your pillow at night and create your dreams. the creator was indirectly showing you the truth.
