Spelling Internet

The lack of proofreaders on the Web must be enhancing our ability to suck at spelling. Think about it, seeing a word reinforces your knowledge of how that word is spelled. When you see the word “separate” written over and over again, you learn how to spell it. But if you’re constantly reading it as “seperate” on blogs where people can’t be bothered to do a little spell checking, you start to believe that it’s spelled that way. Not consciously, but in the data banks of your mind you’re rewriting that information for all time.
