what about flash or java? don’t you have to download those?

If you’re some type of newb and you don’t have them already installed in your browser… plus, while they’re perhaps technically programs, I consider them more of plugins or compliments to the browser, rather than independent programs. 90% of the people have probably never opened Flash up independent of the browser.

Hah… that’s funny. it’s seems to me that neither ff or ie come with those by default.

IE comes with Flash by default, or at least it did from 4 onward (though some weird lawsuits have gone down recently). As for Java – well, I’m not aware of many 2.0 sites that require Java (as opposed to javascript), and both FF and IE come with javascript installed.

Were you to actually have to download and install Java, it would still be a bit “giggity”, but at least Java can be used for lots of things, not a website-specific program like Google Video (used to) or Last.FM require.

I’ll renig on this, firstly for having such a strange retaliation to your simple pondering (apparently I have issues with people with differing opinions…) and secondly for being completely wrong about Flash and Java being auto-installed…
