The World’s First Underwater Spaceship?

DepthXSome people think of the Steelers as Pittsburgh’s gladiators, our super-heroic claim to fame, but nothing makes me prouder of my city than when I hear of the latest, greatest invention coming out of Carnegie Mellon University.

Today, as I was reading Wired, I came across one of the coolest and far-reaching robots they’ve built yet, DepthX. Basically, it’s an underwater robot that can find its own way home. They plan to use it to explore under the ice sheet around Antarctica. Then, send it to space.
