Dear Nathan: Questioning Hilarity
what is the nature of hilarity? must one eat hilarity beans?
John Onyomous, Dryland
There are many types of beans in Spanish. You’ll find that most beans, those of a light color or redish hue, are referred to as “habichuelas” and then whatever type of bean they are (e.g. pinto). However, black beans are termed frijoles negros, denoting an air of raunch. When will our society realize that there is nothing funny about a raunchy Spain.
