No One Ever Died from Swimming in a Giant Pool of Marijuana
Some interesting things I’ve learned in the past two weeks:
- A 2010 Pew Research Poll shows that 73% of Americans are for medical marijuana.
- That poll also shows that 41% of Americans think it should be straight up legal.
- The Obama administration says that, even if a state were to make pot legal, they would have a hissy fit. The type of fit that leaves Americans in jail (1 out of 6 people in federal prison, actually, are there for reefer). Murder, rape, treason, theft, assault and of course, pot. Makes sense.
- Obama also said he would not go after growers of medical marijuana in those states which allowed it, but then did anyway.
What’s the point of all of this? I don’t know, maybe that despite the fact that the majority of Americans think medical pot is a-ok, and all the while Democratic leadership in this country is being accused for being out of touch with it’s constituents, we’re still throwing people in jail for putting smoke in their lungs that makes their eyelids feel a little heavy and their opinions on whether or not the veins in their hands are “pretty cool, man”.
