The Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts, A Website by ClickNathan

Along with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, I recently launched the website for the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts. The festival itself celebrates, you guessed it, “firsts” from around the world. Dancing shadows, romance, puppetry and of course some sex, wine and rock n’ roll are all part of what you’ll experience if you’re lucky enough to attend.

Not to mention a four-story high rubber duck floating through the three rivers.

The website itself was a bit of an experiment for me, honestly. A full screen slider, custom post types and a navigation menu that hung around the footer, leaving the content first and foremost at the top, were all requirements and, these days it goes without saying, it all had to be responsive.

pifof.org boasts big beautiful images in a full screen slider, among other handy new HTML5 and CSS3 tricks.

For the responsive bit, the site boasts three sizes meant to accommodate today’s larger screens, tablets and then a mobile phone version which deviates more drastically from the other two. Built on WordPress, it provides for custom control of the events section, and is loaded up with fun social plugins that help keep people interacting long after they’ve left the website.

Be sure to give it a gander before heading…
